Absición is a double-woven reversible textile depicting a red cross with a gold background. On one side, the piece depicts a red cross with a gold background and on the other side, the piece depicts a gold cross with a red background. Hidden inside the cross are drying rose petals.
This piece was created in homage to my abuelito Erlinto who passed away in December of 2020 at the age of 91. His health deteriorated over the past year with a lack of access to family care under quarantine conditions while COVID-19 cases skyrocketed across Bogotá. Dr. Antonio Erlinto Eraso worked as a cardiovascular surgeon and president of the Red Cross in Pasto and throughout the departamento de Nariño en Colombia. Abue’s life-work sat at the intersections of access and care. Care which more often than not runs on a gold standard, accessible to very few.
